The Window

page 1-50, 150-170

This window was a special place for Asher and his mother. They would always stand by this window and watch for his father. They also spent this time thinking about the future. There was even one point in time when Asher's mother would do almost everything next to this window. It seemed as though this window was like a person that would just listen to their thoughts.

There was a corner of the living room which had this window in it. It was looking out onto the walk. There would be people walking by from time to time. Whether it be night of day, this was a very special place for this family. The moon would shine against the smooth glass surface creating a relaxed mood of relief.

This window was like an opening to the outside world, but it continues to protect the family. When the mother looks through this window, it is almost like she doesn't want to face the reality of things. It is like the perfect image is developed through this window and that is the way she wants it to be, especially when it comes to her husband.

There was always a reference back to this window throughout the entire book. It was the place of peace, where Asher went to escape from all of his problems. Also, every time his father went away, Asher and his mother sat next to the window at night and talked while they watched for his father to come home. This window was the first thing that they thought about when they just needed to think.

This specific window, as simple and innocent as it may look, played a huge role in this book and throughout Asher's life, along with his mother. There was no other place that those two would rather go just to think about life.
