The Chosen

Journal #2

During the second half of this book there are some changes that are forced to be made. Danny starts to make regular visits to the library where Rueven's father helps him to pick out books to read. However, Danny's father does not agree with his reading habits. This is where the relationship between the two boys started to change. This relates a great deal to "Asher Lev" when Asher is growing up and changing his feelings of whether or not he wants to draw. Danny and Rueven start to go in and out of how close of friends they have to choose to be.

The families of these two boys had differences that could not be changed, however, they some how had learned to work around them. Rueven's father and Danny had developed a good feeling about each other and Danny was appreciative that he was helping him with his books. Danny's father got in the middle of the whole thing and said that the two boys could not be friends anymore. Although, they use the same actions and at the very end of the book they decide to be friends again right before they go off to college.

The theme in this book is about growing up and over coming their differences. This resembles "Asher Lev" in that Asher so far is having to deal with the changes in his life. Asher is going back and forth with his drawings, Danny and Rueven are acquiring the right friendship for them. How mature all of these boys are, is determined by how well they are acting in the situations that they are faced with and how they choose to over come them.
