My Name Is Asher Lev

Journal #9

Chapter #13

The second painting of the crucifixion that Asher had made, had a great impact on the outcome of the story. There was a point in the novel where Asher could not think of anything to paint anymore. He was in a slump and he needed to figure out a way to get through it. He really didn't want to paint this, but he knew that it was the only way for him to be able to go on painting the way he had before. There were so many decisions that he had to make regarding this painting that it almost wasn't worth it.

Once he had already painted it, it was too late, but he wanted to just throw it away because he knew he shouldn't have done it. He couldn't decide whether to do so or not, but by the time he did, it was too late. Mrs. Schaeffer, who had helped him show all of his paintings, had already taken it to be shown. Once this was out there was no way he could get it back. She said that it was the only way for him to get past this little slump of his. He got himself in a predicament that may change the rest of his life.

This painting was one that would go against everything that had to do with his religion. He knew that he shouldn't have done it. After this painting was seen by Asher's parents, he was just about disowned by them. He was forced to move away from his home with his parents.

This painting changed the relationship with his parents completely. His father was just starting to understand and accept his hobby, but then he had to go and do something like that, which totally made them change their minds.
