Chapter #10
The relationship between Jacob Kahn and Asher was a very important part of this novel, especially of Asher. This was one person that he could relate to and express his feelings with. Since they were both artists, they had a lot in common, so they were able to share ideas without a problem. Jacob was the kind of person that Asher needed in his life, because there was no one in his family who was doing this for him.
Jacob Kahn was a very influential person to Asher, he was almost like an idol. He was a very understanding person. He listened to what Asher had to say and then gave him some feed back that became very beneficial. He was also almost the only person who provided support and encouragement to Asher. Everyone knew that Asher's father didn't approve of him painting and his mother never really said much, so that only left Yudal Krinskey who he had talked to sometimes about his interest. Asher felt very close to Jacob and I think that their relationship was very important to both of them.
The two of them bonded very well when Asher would go over to Jacob's house. They would paint together and Jacob would always have some kind of good advice to give Asher. This was something that had to happen for Asher's sake considering that no one was guiding him in any kind of direction. He wanted to continue doing something that he loved and this was one person who wouldn't object to his behavior.
There is a feeling there that Asher might do anything that Jacob ever asked him to do, but that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. Asher finally found someone who would share his wonderful experiences with him. It was just what he needed.
