My Name Is Asher Lev

Journal #3

Chapter #3

In this chapter, Asher is having a hard time accepting the move that the family might have to make to Vienna. There were basically two reasons why he was so afraid to move. One was because of all of the stuff that had been going on in Europe that he did not want to get involved in. The other reason was because he was so use to where he lived that he never wanted to move. His fear had a lot to do with his religion and how people of his religion are being treated at the time.

Asher was filled with tremendous fear during this period of time. The only one that he had to talk about it with was Yudal Krinskey, who couldn't really do much for him. He just couldn't bring himself to understand why his father was being asked by the Rebbe to do such a thing that would completely impact their lives.

This young boy was afraid to go to Europe for a few simple reasons, one of which was that he could not speak any French. He did not want to go somewhere, where he wouldn't even understand what was going on. Also many things were happening in Europe at that time and he was afraid for his family's life. This situation was brought upon because of his religion and where he was going, they were specifically killing people of his own religion. This was not something that he wanted to get himself involved in, he would much rather stay and live with his uncle.
