Chapter #1
Even though the Jewish don't believe in him drawing, I think that he should be able to express himself anyway he pleases. Therefore, I don't think that this is foolish in any way at all.
Asher's father doesn't believe that drawing is an acceptable form of expression. I think that this is unfair of him. The father can sing in Hebrew all the time as his form of expression. I don't understand why Jewish people are so against drawing. If Asher has a talent that he likes to express then no one should be stopping him.
Asher believes that his drawing is a kind of medicine. He uses it to cure himself. Once his mother got sick, he wanted to do anything to cure her also. His mother tells him to draw beautiful birds. He does this the best that he can thinking that his mother might come out of her crazy stage. Asher completely believes in his drawings and I think that this is great.
Asher stopped drawing after his mother and father decided to be away all the time. He was going to be home all by himself. He did this to kind of get back at his parents for leaving. He didn't have any use for it as a medicine, so he figured he might as well stop drawing. I am predicting that since he cannot draw to express himself, he will end up going crazy like his mother. He has no medicine to cure or help him through it so he might just end up getting himself in trouble. I am interested to see what happens in the future.
